Dogma (1999)

Quite an old movie, but I heard about it from real hardcore movie critics. There's always this mention about this movie. So I went to search for it and watched it.
Realised it was religious comedy. Don't look at it for what's on the surface (religious ppl will get super angry), but what's underneath and the message it's trying to tell us. It's kinda like a mix between Constantine and Da Vinci Code minus the serious action and add humour to it. For me, it's the ultimate religious comedy. Classics lines are strewn everywhere. And I liked the mention of other movies here n there. Oh and did I mention that you would almost recognise everyone main character? Seriously, it's like a B grade movie with a star-studded cast. Star studded as in you know these actors and they're not like new faces or rarely seen.

Plotwise, the last known descendant of Christ is called upon to save the existence of humanity from being negated by two renegade angels trying to exploit a loophole. - IMDB

All in all, it's a movie for movie-lovers. Not for the usual crowd. It'll make good entertainment for a movie-lovers marathon.

Pretty Persuasion

Many of you wouldn't have heard of this movie. So I'll make it quick. This movie is one of the rare ones that I've seen which have direct in your face dialogue. No such thing as those hollywoody long-winded-speeches-by-the-bad-guys type. It the character has something to tell, he/she just tells it straight away. That's the most obvious thing I noticed about this film, and I like it. It really gives it a different level of the way you see things.

The movie revolves around Kimberly Joyce, played by Evan Rachael Wood, who would do anything to become famous, even at the cost of her best friends. And she plans everything oh so well. Backstabbing everyone else, and threatening them and acting all the time with a smile on her face. Maybe I've been watching too much scheming movies lately, but this one is one good one. Good in such a sense that it's really heartless and no mercy, self-centered and despicable. Goes to show never mess with women.

I'll give a B+

Death Note Part 1 & 2

Well, what a movie to kick start the reviews. This is one movie that I truely enjoyed watching. The story just keeps you glued to the screen. The writers are damn smart to come up with such a storyline. Really respect sia. Beside that, it's also one of the anime that I think I'll follow closely. The whole idea is just so cool.

The death note is a notebook in which whoever's name is written on it, the person will die. If no cause of death is written within 40sec after writing the name, the person will die of a heart attack. The cause of death must be written within 6min 40 sec. Etc, etc....

So basically a guy gets his hands on the death note and plays with some idea he had in his head. Things get complicated along the way (part 1) and gets worse when another death note appears (part 2). I won't have any spoilers for you guys, and I can't say much unless i reveal even more spoilers. But seriously, just go watch.

If you're into concepts n storyline, this is just for you. If you wanna check out Jap hunks or babes, action, sex, violence, blood n gore, then you're disappointed. Although got a one or 2 babes, that's all u get.

The good thing is that is brings everything to a close. In a time when sequeals are always hinted, it's gd to see a movie where there's a proper ending.

It should be on the reservation list in a few months time.
